Healthcare Visit Schedule - Mid Pregnancy
All of your visits after the first 3 months should ideally be in person, but there may also be virtual visits available as needed. Visits are generally done by your provider, either your primary care provider or your maternity provider. You can transfer care to the maternity care provider (who will be on the team that attends the birth) at any point in the pregnancy. Discuss this with the primary provider you are beginning the pregnancy care with. Other team members (such as nurses) may also be there to support you. In these visits, your provider will check your weight, blood pressure, and belly size and monitor the baby’s heart rate (the part we all love!).
Generally, your visits should follow the following schedule:
- 16 Weeks – A general physical exam is done. Depending on your needs, your provider may offer you an HPV test or other additional tests.
- 20 to 22 Weeks – Routine checkup.
- 24 Weeks – Routine checkup. You will be offered screening for gestational diabetes (diabetes of pregnancy ). For that test you will receive a form to take to the lab for a blood test.
Each community has its own services and supports. Your provider can tell you about programs and people who can assist you. If you are indigenous, you may also find it helpful to connect with Indigenous knowledge keepers, elders, aunties, or doulas.
