Healthcare Visit Schedule - Early Pregnancy
3 to 4 Weeks After Your Last Period | Online or In-Person Visit with Your Primary Care Provider
If your period is late and/or you suspect you might be pregnant, take a home pregnancy test to confirm. Then, reach out to your primary care provider and schedule a visit. Alternatively, your Primary Care Provider or a Walk-In Clinic, can arrange a pregnancy test for you.
Your Primary Care Provider will guide you through the next steps. During this initial visit, they’ll ask about your health and family history. They’ll estimate your due date and discuss important topics like vitamins, supplements, vaccinations, use of alcohol, drugs, and prescription medications. They will also arrange an ultrasound to determine a more exact expected due date. Feel free to ask any questions you have! This visit may take place in person or virtually.
7 to 12 Weeks | Online or In-Person Visit with Your Primary Care Provider or Maternity Care Provider (if chosen)
During this visit, you can continue discussing your birth care options. It’s also a good time to learn about and begin to decide on a pregnancy care provider. You can choose from a Family Doctor with pregnancy care special interest, a Midwife, or an Obstetrician. [see link to How to choose?] You’ll get forms to take to the lab for blood tests and, an ultrasound to confirm your expected due date if it has not been done yet. You can explore genetic screening options at this point. It is important to know that it’s your choice whether to have genetic screening tests or not. This is a perfect opportunity to get to know them better and ask questions. They’ll be with you every step of the way! You can ask questions about the normal changes and discomforts of early pregnancy that you may be experiencing.
